MAJOR thanks to our Armed Forces

Visitors to The BIG Sheep family attraction celebrated Armed Forces Day on Saturday 29th June honoured their heroes in sterling fashion.
Local lady, Rae McDonald, turned up in full army uniform, which was donated by Cassie’s Army Store in Barnstaple to have her head heroically shaved to raise money for the ‘Help the Heroes’ Charity. Visitors also wrote their own personal messages to our armed forces on a customized made 10ft x 5ft monster mural type banner with a Union Jack design.
The BIG Sheep offered free admission to all our heroes to celebrate Armed Forces Day and visitors Corporals Andy Thomas and Phil Perry from RMB Chivenor who enjoyed a day out were happy to pose with Rachael as she bravely prepared for her head shave. Ex Sergeant Major Robert Grey Wolf Rose of the 1st Parachute Regiment who travelled up from Cornwall to support Rae in her efforts and was the first to step forward to start the head shave before it was finished off by Dan Squires of Kismet Hair and Barbering Shop in Barnstaple. Once Dan completed the shave he creatively shaved a H4H into the back of Rae’s head to a massive applaud from everyone who watched.
Rick Turner, director of the Flock at The BIG Sheep who came up with the idea to create the monster mural said, ‘It was quite touching to read some of the messages, especially those from the children and we are looking forward to presenting it to all our troops at RMB Chivenor next week.’
Brave Rachel who has raised £245 so far for the Help the Heroes says “It’s a charity I hold dear to me and I would like to give something back to the heroes out there and here. I’m nervous about the actual head shave but know I’m doing it for a great cause. My daughter is very proud of me which also makes this extra special for me acting as a strong role model to her.” If anyone would like to make a further donation for Rachel’s efforts, visit www.justgiving.com/Rachael-McDonald3
