Nursery Barn and Pets Corner

Lamb Feeding | The BIG Sheep

As well as a fun day out for the whole family, The BIG Sheep is a working farm and so throughout the year there are often cute and cuddly baby animals being born. When looking for things to do in North Devon, visiting a working farm will give you a taste of Devon life.

We lamb throughout the year, so you might be lucky enough to see a real life birth when you visit our Nursery Barn. During our summer season you can join in with our Lamb Feeding Show and bottle feed the lambs their lunchtime and evening bottles.

Nursery Barn

Opening Times:

  • Summer season: Open daily 10am until 6pm
  • Winter season: Open from January until March at weekends only.

When you visit our barn we have a variety of small animals for you to come and meet:

Puppies: All The BIG Sheep dogs on site are pure bred collies. Each dog has a role, helping the shepherds run the farm or helping out with the demonstrations and shows. Throughout the year The BIG Sheep normally have at least one litter of very fluffy lively puppies born. Everyone coos over the puppies, including the staff!

Piglets, Goats, Ducklings and more: You’ll make lots of new friends in the animal barn.  Throughout the year we have piglets, pygmy goats, puppies, lambs, rabbits, guinea pigs, chicks and ducklings.  You’ll also find our sheep maternity pen with ewes and lambs.

The BIG Sheep animal barn is always full of greedy sheep so don’t forget to buy sheep food on arrival so you can hand feed the friendly fellows. They really are the best fed sheep in the world and love the attention they get from visitors.

Pets’ Corner

Pets Corner | The BIG Sheep

Throughout the school holidays The Big Sheep runs a pets’ corner each afternoon where you have the opportunity to get closer to the animals in a special animal handling session.  The barn team will tell you about each of the animals teaching you how best to hold them and giving you tips on how to care for them. For more information see our Live Shows page.
